Scottish Labour Party and business

To start with, I like how easy it is seems to find out information on where the Scottish Labour Party stand on business.  From the home page of their website, it two simple clicks What We Believe>Economy and you’re there.

Their opening gambit is that they are “working hard to deliver jobs, skills and a sustainable economy”.  Very nice but what does it actually mean?  They go on to say that “Labour is working in the Scottish Parliament to stimulate green economy, lead the way in urging support for the manufacturing sector, effectively utilise the public sector through measures such as procurement and challenge the SNP government to deliver jobs and help the Scottish economy, rather than simply picking fights with Westminster”.

It’s all pretty strategic stuff rather than a list of specific policies but I came across the next document  “Working together for a prosperous and sustainable Scotland.  Surely here is the outline of Scottish Labour plans?  Well no, it pretty much a document full of what Labour has apparently done for Scotland and questions that presumably need answered in the future.  It even has a footer stating that it is a discussion document and not necessarily the views of the Scottish Labour party.

The website goes on to tells us that Iain Gray MSP will be “developing of an industrial strategy with the objective of achieving social justice through sustainable economic development”.  I guess that means we need to wait until an election is announced until Scottish Labour are forced to make a policy or two.
